Moving on up....

We came home last Thursday to 6 chickens who had decided that roaming around the bathroom was much more fun than being confined to the tub.  Thankfully their new home was predator proof and good enough for them to move into.

They spent the first night piled up on top of each other.  We installed two dowel rods for roosting but they seemed to prefer a pig-pile the first few nights.  Mike built and installed 3 nesting boxes even though they won't be needed for a while.  All in all the chicken coop is in pretty good shape.

Next on the list of thing to do is to install the run.  Anytime we are home we let them free range but since we are aware of quite a few predators living nearby, they are confined to the coop during the day while we are at work.  In the morning I go out and feed them and check to make sure no animals have attempted to eat my girls over night.  They seem to be pretty happy to see me and will eat their breakfast with me for a few minutes before getting clearly annoyed that I am not opening the door and letting them out.  Hopefully installing the run and allowing them to forage in a giant leaf pile during the day will keep them from turning on me.
